So it seems that rather suddenly, the Naked Chocolate Café has closed. It really seems like only a few months ago that I interviewed with Drew T. at 18th street; when in reality it has been the longest-running job I've ever had, by far.
Within a week, Naked has gone from the delightful Gayborhood chocolate shop, smack dab in the midst of center city that I saw myself returning to after a long successful CO-OP, to a wounded, struggling cafe, clasping to it's dignity long enough to slip away one Sunday night.
I've met some awesome people in my career at Naked, including some people I hope to stay close with in the years to come. I'm sure the drunken nights will continue. I'm sure the camaraderie will continue. My only hope is since I never got an official "last day", we all get together one last time to celebrate properly.
NO kudos to Naked Chocolate management. Apparently letting their employees know the store is closed is just as important as paying the rent on time (not at all). I should not have to learn that I lost my job from my coworkers on Facebook. Not professional in the least. While I know Tom Block is planning on re-opening, the level of disorganization and carelessness he's demonstrated has proven to me that there are certainly better places to work. Assuming my upcoming COOP goes as planned, I will be looking for a new job in the Fall.
So long Naked Chocolate. It's been real.
